Quality Assurance Engineer II

This is a remote position.

The Veterans Affairs business unit helps transform the VA into a modern digital services organization where Veteran outcomes are at the center of every effort. We partner with the VA to design and deliver seamless user experiences for Veterans, their families and caregivers, and VA employees. By applying better practices in service design, product management, and technology, we enable the VA to increase the use, quality, and reliability of services and decrease the time Veterans spend waiting for outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities:

In this role, you will serve as an individual contributor within a team; with the support and guidance of leadership, you will be responsible for supporting the goal of meeting scope, schedule and delivery requirements. You will begin to develop an awareness and understanding of the role of quality assurance within the program, as well as interact with stakeholders. Primary expectations for a Quality Assurance Engineer II include:

  • Development of influential skills to help keep quality front-of-mind for the team, ensuring they maximize available testing resources

  • Exhibits understanding for other roles and practices, including how they are intended to work together

  • Estimates, designs, and develops test cases as well as manual and automated testing with a moderate level of feedback and guidance from their team

  • Designs, executes, and monitors the execution of a variety of test suites as part of the software development lifecycle, including manual testing results

  • Collaborates with the team to ensure automation tools and frameworks provide suitable coverage

  • Writes boilerplate and exploratory test cases that cover unique or new functionality/ technology to reduce cognitive load on developers

  • Builds technical and communication skills, gaining understanding of the program and cross-functional interactions

  • Participates in planning sessions, building understanding of overall testing strategy for the program, CI/CD delivery models, etc.

  • Actively participates in design and asks questions to work toward building systems that are testable in the outset


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience
    • Relevant years of experience may be substituted for education -
  • Experience troubleshooting complex technical product-related issues
  • Normal business hours for customer support shall be 8am EST – 8pm ES
    • 24/7 on-call emergency support, including weekends and holidays
  • Proficient with testing tools and automation frameworks used on the program

In support of various state and city equal pay transparency laws, Ad Hoc job descriptions feature the starting range we reasonably expect to pay to candidates who would join our team with little to no need for training on the responsibilities we've outlined above. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility.
